Kyrgyzstan is a country of incredible mountains, wild landscapes, and scenic road trips. Driving here can be one of the highlights of your journey. At the same time, road conditions may be very different from what you are used to.
While main highways between major cities are paved, they can still include potholes, uneven surfaces, and limited lighting. Outside the cities, many roads are narrow, partially paved, gravel, or dirt. In mountain regions you may experience steep passes, sharp turns, rough surfaces, mud after rain, snow in colder seasons, and occasional road construction.
Please also keep in mind:
- Livestock (horses, cows, sheep) may walk on the road.
- Road signs and markings are sometimes limited.
- Mobile coverage and fuel stations can be sparse in remote areas.
- Night driving outside cities is not recommended.
For trips to mountain or remote areas, we strongly recommend choosing a 4x4 vehicle.
For safety reasons, driving on certain high-risk mountain passes and extremely remote routes is not allowed with our vehicles. These routes include, but are not limited to: very high-altitude passes, unmaintained off-road tracks, and areas without regular road service. If you are unsure about your planned route, please contact us — we are happy to advise you.
